Auckland Day 1: The Railway Campus

We landed at 4:40 this morning and got to the Railway Campus around 7:00 am. Unfortunately, they weren't expecting us until 2 pm so we had to wait a few hours to get our rooms. We wandered around until we found a cafe to have breakfast in. Even at 7:30 we were the only people on the streets.

The building used to be the main railway station for Auckland but it has been converted into student housing. The lobby is pretty impressive. Much nicer than the River.

Almost nobody is staying here right now because it is prime vacation season. A lot of the stores and restaurants are closed until January because their owners are on holiday. The building is pretty nice. There are game rooms, a TV lounge, a gym, a large kitchen for residents, and a big common room in the main terminal of the station with a giant chess board.

We are staying in suites of three bedrooms around a communal "tea and toast" kitchen and a bathroom.

The rooms are nice. It was great to be able to shower and lay down full length on the bed instead of being crumpled up in a plane seat.
